Researching the history of the Hispanic communities in New York City at NYC Municipal Archives, we found among the Federal Writers' Project collection essays about the "amusements" of this ethnic group in 1930s. They contain a great deal of interesting information including all the addresses of the Spanish and Hispanic clubs, theaters and places of entertainment at that time, as well as the earliest Hispanic art center in New York City. By studying these materials students will understand Spanish and Hispanic art and culture in 1930s and see how Hispanic culture has impacted American art and music over the years.
