The new Regents High School Examination of Global History and Geography has included a document-based question, a new test format that requires students' ability to analyze documents, pictures, graphs and other information of primary and secondary sources. It also requires a high level of critical thinking and writing skills as well as content knowledge in social studies. Designed in the same format of the Regents Exam, the following document based question is to provide the students with an opportunity to test their knowledge learned from the curriculum as well as the critical thinking skills needed to approach the historical documents. This question is based on the accompanying documents (A - H). This question is designed to test your ability to work with historical documents. Some of these documents have been edited for the purposes of this question. As you analyze the documents, take into account both the source of each document and any point of view that may be presented in the document. Massive immigration has exerted great impact on the political, economic and cultural development of New York City. The Latinos represent a great force in shaping what New York City is today. Using information from the documents and your knowledge of global history, answer the questions that follow each document in Part A.
