Introduction

The purpose of this section is to prepare and hook the student by describing their quest.

You can be very straightforward about this, or you can give them roles or a scenario (e.g., "You are a reporter for an American newspaper...").

This is also where you provide any context that they may need.

The Task

In this section, you describe clearly what the task is. The task is what leads the student to process and transform the information they gather.

The task can take any form. It could be...

• a problem to be solved
• a position to be formulated and defended
• a creative work
• or anything else you can think of

The Process

Here you list the steps that the students should go through to accomplish the task.

You may also provide ways for the students to organize the information they will be gathering. For example, you might tell them to ...

• make a flowchart
• make a summary table
• make a concept map
• make a graph
• make a checklist

You may want to prepare worksheets or forms for them to fill in and they use the different resources.

Here you point to the websites that you want the students to use to accomplish the task. (You don't need to confine yourself to websites--you can use print resources as well.)

You may want to give them a list of websites or you may want to annotate each website, telling the students what kind of information to look for in each site.

Evaluation

Here you may want to describe to the students how their performance and/or final product will be evaluated.

You might link to a separate rubric document from here, or you might briefly summarize your criteria. You may also wnat to specify if there will be individual grades, a common grade for group work, or some combination.
